UN Commission's report on BB assassination unlikely by year-end

The chief of the UN commission probing former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto's assassination case, Heraldo Munoz, has said that while there has been substantial progress in the investigations, it is unlikely that the report would be ready by the end of the year. "It is really hard to say. We're working hard and advancing, but there is a great deal of work to be done," The Daily Times quoted Munoz, as saying. Responding to a question regarding reports that the commission is finding it hard to grill former President General Pervez Musharraf, Munoz, Chile's representative to the UN, said all such reports were false. Munoz has already made it clear that the commission's report should not be expected to be a 'smoking gun', as it would not mention any names of perpetrators of the assassination as its mandate was just to examine the facts and circumstances in which the killing was carried out. "Our report would not be a smoking gun. We would not tell the names of perpetrators," he had said earlier. Pakistan had called for a UN commission to probe the assassination of the two-time Prime Minister who was killed at a campaign rally, after her supporters were angered by conflicting accounts from the then-government of how she died.
