Delhi's Ramlila Grounds host two-day exhibition on Indira Gandhi | On the occasion of 25th death anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, a two-day exhibition has been organised in the national capital. Organised by
the Delhi Government at the Ramlila Ground, the exhibition showcases Indira Gandhi's
photographs since she was a three-year-old to her days of yore. It offers a glimpse
of Indira's college days, her marriage, her family and various other aspect of
her personal life. One gets to watch the pictorial presentation throwing light
on Indira's personal belongings; her writing and the school Indira studied at.
The exhibition also showcases Indira Gandhi while taking oath as the Prime Minister,
engrossed in work at her office, her public appearances and spending time with
general public. The exhibition seems an attempt to inspire the audience through
the glimpses of Indira personal and political life. "It has been 25 years since
Indira Ji went for her heavenly abode. This exhibition has been put to re-live
her fond memories by the way of photographs. A film is being shown too. This exhibition
aims at reliving and reminiscing Indira Ji's memories. She has left an everlasting
impression on the people which will stay forever. Her name is recorded in golden
letters in the history of India. It is an effort to showcase the major highlights
of her life and send it across to the public. So that the people remember her
and take inspiration from her life," said Shiela Dikshit, Delhi's Chief Minister.
The exhibition has drawn students from across the city. Born on November 19, 1917
in Allahabad city of Uttar Pradesh, Indira was the only child of Jawahar Lal Nehru,
country's first Prime minister. Following the death of Prime minister Lal Bahadur
Shastri in 1966, Indira was elected Prime Minister and became the first woman
Prime Minister who went to be known as the 'Iron lady' of the country. On Oct.31,
1984, her two Sikh bodyguards assassinated Indira Gandhi. |
