Hillary's 'draconian' security doesn't amuse 'harassed' and 'stranded' Lahorites

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's visit to the city caused severe traffic problems for citizens and crippled their daily routine, as every area the dignitary visited was cordoned off due to security reasons. Locals have complained that major roads were blocked for hours and no public transport facility was operating in the area. They also claimed that shutting down the entire city in the name of security casts a very bad light on the country. "Is it the visit from a foreign minister or a curfew imposed by the civil administration?" The Daily Times quoted Muhammad Bilal Ashgar, a local resident, as saying. While, another citizen, Mian Waheed questioned the sense behind closing the major roads of the city without taking into account the problems facing the people. According to reports, the Mall, Multan Road , Wahdat Road and Jail Road were kept closed to traffic after erecting barriers. Similarly, the traffic at Ravi Road was also blocked. Similarly, various other citizens said it was the responsibility of the concerned authorities to ensure that the visits of foreign dignitaries did not put a halt to the normal routine, and added that security measures should be taken, but not at the cost of the common man. Meanwhile, several businessmen complained that business activities were already down due to the security situation and such mass closures only worsened the situation.
