New Af-Pak policy to focus on Pak as key in fight against terror

US President Barack Obama is reportedly expected to announce a new policy for Afghanistan and Pakistan soon, which is expected to focus on Pakistan as a key player in the fight against extremists. According to reports, Obama recently held a Situation Room meeting with his national security team on Pakistan and Afghanistan to finalize the 'right strategy' for the region. The meeting was attended by US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Defence Secretary Robert Gates, National Security Advisor General (retired) James Jones, Deputy NSA Tom Donilon, Assistant to the President for Counterterrorism and Homeland Security John Brennan and White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel. While, Vice President, Joe Biden, who is in Europe, joined the meeting through video-conference, The Dawn reports. Earlier, President Obama used to invite US Ambassadors to Afghanistan and Pakistan to attend the meeting, but this time around they were missing from the contingent. Meanwhile, Secretary Clinton would be leaving for Pakistan soon for an official visit, where she is expected to brief Pakistani leaders on the new strategy as well.
