Asif’s chances of playing in UAE disappear with PCB officials busy in joyrides |
The Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) unprofessionalism was once
again highlighted when it failed to convince the United Arab Emirates (UAE) authorities
to allow tainted fast bowler Mohammad Asif to take part in the one-day series
against New Zealand starting November 3 in Abu Dhabi. According to sources, the
PCB officials did virtually nothing to pursue Asif’s case and instead remained
busy in joyrides, which has now landed the troubled speedster in more problems.
The Arab authorities have threatened to detain Asif the moment he lands in Dubai
or Abu Dhabi . “The period running up to the series against New Zealand in the
UAE was an ideal time for the PCB to seek reprieve for the bowler. However, since
no efforts have been made to contact the UAE Government in person the matter got
more complicated,” The News quoted a former cricketer, as saying on conditions
of anonymity. Since, the PCB has made no sincere effort to get an official pardon,
chances are that Asif may not be allowed to play any international tournaments
in the UAE in the future. It is pertinent to mention here that the International
Cricket Council (ICC) has shifted its base to Dubai , which clearly suggests that
the Arab nation would get more chances of hosting international cricket tournaments
in the days to come. |
