Regional Tamil party stages protest against Lankan Govt in Chennai |
Activists and supporters of Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK),
a regional political party of Tamil Nadu, converged in large numbers at Chennai
on Thursday to stage a protest against the Sri Lankan Government over maltreatment
of displaced Tamils in the island nation. Thol Thirumavalavan, the founder President
of VCK who had recently visited Sri Lankan concentration camps, led the protest.
He expressed his dissatisfaction over the treatment of Tamils in Sri Lanka and
accused Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse of being ruthless. He also demanded
the trio of Rajapkses (Mahinda, Basil and Gotabhaya) should be declared as war
criminals. In the protest three party activists were dressed like the Mahinda,
Gotabhaya and Basil and a-la a street-play, they were made to surrender before
the public for punishment and were 'beaten' by the people. “Considering the Sri
Lankan Governement's inhuman and maltreatment of Tamils in Sri Lanka with no land
and healthcare, we have gathered here to voice our protest. And to condemn such
an attitude of Sri Lankan Government, three members of our party have dressed
up like Mahinda and his brothers Basil and Gotabhaya and the three are being beaten
by the people as punishment,” Thirumavalavan said. |
