Four battalions of ITBP to be deployed in Maoist-affected areas | Indo-Tibetan Border Police Director General, Vikram Srivastava, on Tuesday said that four battalions of the ITBP will be deployed in the Maoist affected areas. The ITBP would be deployed in the area
for the first time. Srivastava was delivering his speech during the 48th Raising
Day celebrations held in capital New Delhi. “Four battalions of our ITBP will
go on an anti-naxal (Maoist) operation. This operation will be carried out on
the plains and the troops have been given high quality training,” Srivastava said,
while delivering speech during the 48th Raising Day celebrations. The Maoist rebels
have ignored repeated calls to renounce violence and negotiate and stepped up
their attacks in recent months, prompting the government to go after them in a
concerted strike. Earlier this month the government gave nod to the Indian Air
Force to counter Maoists in the Red belt. Srivastava also denies that troops posted
on the Indo-China border were facing any problems. "We have no problem and we
don't feel any kind of tension is present on the border. Our boys are happy they
are doing their duties well. Nobody is stopping us from doing our duties. I have
been there to all places," he said. |
