Political leaders condole Andhra CM's tragic death | Defence Minister AK Anthony was among many political leaders condoling the tragic and untimely demise of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy in
a helicopter crash on Wednesday, and said the nation has lost a man of the masses.
In his condolence message, Antony said he had known Reddy from close quarters
for many years. The nation has lost a man of the masses and the people of Andhra
Pradesh have lost a true son of the soil. He also extended his heartfelt condolences
to the family members of the departed leader and to the people of Andhra Pradesh.
Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ambika Soni, in her condolence message,
expressed shock and deep grief at the untimely and tragic death of Dr. Reddy.
She recalled her association with late Dr. Reddy and described his death as a
major setback and loss not only to Congress Party and the State of Andhra Pradesh
but also to the nation. Minister of State for Railways E.Ahamed in his condolence
message, said that Dr. Reddy who had served the people with dedication and commitment,
was a mass leader and his services for Andhra Pradesh and the country can never
be forgotten. He said that with the sad demise of Dr. Reddy, the minority Muslim
community has lost a very friendly and secular leader who lived up to the ideals
of communal amity and religious harmony to the core. Dr. Reddy was an asset to
the nation and above all, a wonderful personality, loved by lakhs of people, Ahamed
added. Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Dr. Farooq Abdullah, termed
it as irreparable loss for Andhra Pradesh and the country. Minister of State for
Defence M. Pallam Raju, in his condolence message said, it is a sad day for the
country as well as for the state of Andhra Pradesh that a strong leader like Dr
Reddy is no more. Calling Dr. Reddy as a very strong Chief Minister, Raju said
he was a powerful leader who brought about great changes in the infrastructure
of the state, especially in the irrigation projects that he had taken up, which
brought lakhs of acres of new land under cultivation. Overseas Indian Affairs
Minister, Vayalar Ravi in his message, said "I am deeply shocked and grieved over
the sudden, sad and untimely tragic death of my dear friend and colleague Dr.
Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy. "It is a personal loss to me and an immense loss to the
Congress Party. The nation has lost a great leader and visionary," he said. Minister
of State for Railways K.H.Muniyappa also expressed his deep grief in his condolence
message. He said that Dr. Reddy was dynamic chief minister who with his rich administrative
experience, turned the economy of the State around. "Dr. Reddy had a solution
to every problem which made him a man of masses and had a huge continent of followers
not only in Andhra Pradesh but in the whole country," he added. Reddy's Bell 430
chopper went missing on Wednesday morning at about 9.35 and could only be located
on Thursday morning following a night long search operation by different units
of security personnel including Army's Commandos, Air Force's Sukhoi-30, and 5,000
CRPF personnel. Reddy's chopper wreckage was discovered atop a hill about 40 nautical
miles from Andhra Pradesh's Kurnoool district. Along with YSR, four others-- Dr
P Subramanium, the special secretary to the Chief Minister; ASC Wesley, Chief
Security Officer and two pilots Group Captain SK Bhatia and Captain MS Reddy-died
in the crash.
