March 21, 2019
NEW DELHI: Robbers struck in Uttam Nagar area of Delhi in the wee hours of
Tuesday uprooting a whole ATM machine that had inside it Rs 31 lakh and fleeing.
The police said the Corporation Bank ATM had no system of posting security
guard at night as the room is shuttered in the night. The bank staff said the
employee deputed to close the kiosk forgot to do so on Monday night. A branch
of the bank is located next to the ATM.
The robbers disconnecetd the CCTV and covered the camera before unscrewing
the machine and decamping with it in a truck. No gas cutters were used and the
machine was uprooted.
The incident came to light when customers started coming to draw cash. Police
are checking the toll plazas and other CCTVs around the place.
Earlier, in January, a similar incident took place in Maidan Garhi in Delhi.
In yet another theft, last year, a gang took away an ATM containing Rs 30 lakh
after they failed to break it, in Mahavir Enclave of west Delhi. The theft was
reported in the morning after a shopkeeper who had gone to withdraw cash found
the ATM removed.
