Polish activists pull down disgraced priest's statue | Feb 24, 2019
WARSAW: Activists in Poland using a rope pulled down a statue of a priest on
Thursday who had been accused of sexual abuses.
The incident took place when Pope Francis was starting a gathering at the Vatican
to discuss sexual abuses by the priests.
The statue was of the late Henryk Jankowski in Gdansk, who died in 2010. The
activists desecrated the statue’s parts symbolising the abuses.
Three men have been taken into custody for the destruction of the statue.
The deceased priest had supported the 1980s pro-democracy Solidarity movement
leader Lech Walesa, against the communist regime, for which President George
HW Bush visited him.
