Ambika Soni criticizes construction of Blue Star Memorial

Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni on Wednesday criticised the plan to build a memorial for terrorists inside Harminder Sahib in Amritsar. "Nothing should be done which glorifies terrorism and also helps in killing of innocent people," Soni told media here.

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal, however, took potshots at the Centre on this issue, saying there is no sign of terrorism that the Congress would like to happen in Punjab. "Our state is in perfectly safe hands. There is no sign of terrorism that the Congress would like it to happen in Punjab . Let Congress concentrate on keeping the law and order in the country. Everyone knows where the law and order in the country is going and where this government is responsible and what they are doing for it," she said.

Meanwhile, Minister of State for External Affairs Preneet Kaur today said that the UK Government has arrested two persons in connection with the assault on General Brar in London and that all necessary steps are being taken in this direction. Controversy has erupted over move to hail General Arun Shridhar Vaidya's assassins as martyrs.

General Vaidya was the Chief of Army staff when operation Blue Star was launched in June 1984. General Vaidya was assassinated in 1986 in Pune by Jinda and Sukha. The two terrorists were convicted in the case and sentenced to death, which was carried out on October 9, 1992 in Pune.
