Kiwi coach questions Super Over rule in Super Eight games in T20 WC

New Zealand was knocked out of the Twenty20 World Cup after they lost all three games during the Super Eight stage, with two of them ending with Super Over, and Kiwis coach, Mike Hesson, has now questioned the logic behind the Super Over rule in non-elimination games.

The Black Caps tied their matches with Sri Lanka and West Indies but lost both of them in the Super Over, and that has angered Hesson a touch, who feels the Super Eight stage matches are just an extension of pool play, therefore the points ought to be shared, in the event of a tie. "I can't work out why, in a non-elimination game, you have to have a Super Over. I've never worked that out," Stuff.co.nz quoted Hesson, as saying.

Hesson feels the Super Overs should be reserved for things like semifinals and finals, rather than Super 8s, where teams need to accumulate points to qualify for the playoffs.
