Pak committee says Intel agencies must work under constitution | All intelligence agencies in Pakistan should work within the legal frame backed by the constitution, a committee formed to monitor defense production in the country has said. The members of the Senate
Standing Committee on Defence and Defence Production were in agreement that anti-terrorism
laws needed be made aligned with the constitution so that terrorists could not
be bailed out from the courts. Experts on non-conventional defence, counter-terrorism
strategy, Afghanistan and FATA put forth their proposals on Friday during an exclusive
brainstorming session of the committee to formulate policy guidelines for the
government and parliament, the Daily Times reports. According to the paper, Mushahid
Hussain Syed, who is also the PML-Q secretary general, said it was no time to
keep issues secret from the public and there were no "holy cows" anymore. The
session, which was the first-ever public meeting of any committee of the parliament,
was also attended by a 13-member delegation of National Defence University (NDU),
experts, students and journalists, the report said.
