Wal-Mart spent $53 m to get access to retail market, alleges MM Joshi | Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Murali Manohar
Joshi on Tuesday said that global supermarket chain Wal-Mart spent 53 million dollars to get access to retail market in the country. Joshi further alleged that
some ministers might have been beneficiary of pay-off. “They (Wal-Mart) have mentioned
in their public documents that they have spent 53 million dollars in India to
get access to the Indian market. They should name the ministers they paid money
to,” Joshi said at a public rally here. The Centre formally opened its supermarket
sector to foreign chains and eased foreign investment rules in airlines and broadcasters,
implementing a spate of reforms, aimed at reviving growth and staving off a credit
rating downgrade.
