Former Bond girls come together to mark 007’s 50th anniversary | Three of Bond’s love interests from the 1960’s and
70’s got together at Stoke Park, Bucks, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first 007 movie. The former Bond girls - Tania Mallet, Eunice Gayson and Britt
Ekland - made their appearance at the event, where scenes from both ‘Goldfinger’ and ‘Tomorrow Never Dies’ were filmed. Swedish blonde Britt Ekland, now 69, was
already a top model and actress before she landed the role of Mary Goodnight alongside Roger Moore in ‘The Man With The Golden Gun’ in 1974, the Daily Mail reported.
She said that Moore saved her during a stunt, when she fell. She also stated that
Moore had been a gentleman during a scene where he had to slip his hands beneath
the sheets on a slow boat to China , at the end of the film. Eunice Gayson recalled
that the first Bond Sean Connery had not been so self-assured when he came to
utter the classic phrase “The name’s Bond - James Bond” for the first time in
‘Dr No.’ She had to give him a few drinks to calm his nerves after director Terence
Young told her to do so. But later on Connery became so drunk, that despite saying
his lines perfectly during the filming, he could not recall anything. Gayson also
revealed that she had known Moore previously, as he had been a pal of his boyfriend,
and liked kissing him when she reprised the role of Sylvia in second Bond film
‘From Russia With Love’ in 1963. Fellow Bond girl Tania Mallet starred as Tilly
Masterson in ‘Goldfinger’ in 1964 where she was killed by villain Oddjob’s flying
razor-edged bowler hat. It was the last time she acted in a movie as the pay was
much less compared to her modelling salary.
