Popcorn Indiana is kicking it to the next level in popcorn technology with a voice activated, fully automated popcorn cannon that fires the light snack into your mouth, the New York Daily News reported. All you need to say is “pop!” - the device locates the speaker’s
mouth by determining the sound’s origin and shoots popcorn in that direction.
The Popinator is still in the “testing phase,” the company said. “One thing that
never changes about popcorn is how people eat it, how they get it in their mouths,
whether it’s directly from a bag or from a bowl — that hasn’t changed. But how
cool would it be if you could change the way people eat popcorn,” Barry, VP of
Operations of Popcorn Indiana, said. The machine uses a binaural microphone system,
which is “similar to the way the human hearing system works,” one of the company’s
electrical engineers explained. It determines voice origins with slight differences
in the arrival time of sound waves. The Popinator is a prototype right now, but
may be available soon. You might need to move your head slightly to catch the
popcorn in your mouth because every piece of popcorn travels through the air differently
depending on its unique shape. |
