Vaiko detained ahead of Rajapaksa's visit to MP

Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) general secretary Vaiko was on Friday detained by the police when he tried to go to Sanchi to protest Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa's visit. Vaiko, along with hundreds of his supporters, have been protesting for the past three days against the Rajapaksa's visit to Sanchi, holding him responsible for the atrocities against Tamils in the island nation. Meanwhile, the founder of Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) party and lawmaker Thol Thirumavalavan said the Tamil community is deeply hurt by the government's insensitivity towards the issue. "We strongly condemn the attitude of the union government which is against Tamil community and ethnic society. The whole Tamil community is agitating against the visit of Rajapaksa to India but union government is not bothering about this demand. So we strongly condemn the attitude of the union government. We demand the government to send back Rajapaksa to Sri Lanka ," said Thirumavalavan. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan had on Thursday appealed to Vaiko and his supporters for maintenance of peace and order while asserting that security in the state was his prime concern. The Sri Lankan President arrived in New Delhi on a three-day state visit to the country on Wednesday.
