Pakistan troops violate ceasefire again in Poonch | The Pakistan army fired across the border on Monday night allegedly to provide cover to militants wanting to cross over to Poonch. The troopers initially opened heavy
weaponry firing and then started to fire mortar shells later. Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday,
Mohammad Azam, a resident, said the Pakistani army tried to make use of the heavy
rains to facilitate easy entrance of militants in India. “Between 10 and 11 last
night, there was uncontrolled firing from across the border. It was raining pretty
hard, but our forces retaliated. The Pakistanis are continuously violating the
ceasefire. We want to convey this message through the media that they will always
be unsuccessful in spreading militancy in the Valley,” Azam said. The crossfire
continued for over two hours. This was the 10th firing incident over the last
month. Recently, on August 16, the Pakistani troops targeted Indian posts along
the border in R S Pura sector of the state on August 16, killing one border security
guard. On August 5, Pakistani soldiers had targeted another picket in R S Pura
sector in Jammu without any provocation. |
