Private firm employees supplied explosive materials to Maoists in Odisha | Nine employees of a Hyderabad-based private company have been arrested in Odisha's Malkangiri district for supplying explosives to the Maoists. The employees were working in an infrastructure company based in Hyderabad and
had undertaken several road construction projects in the area. According to reports,
the company agreed to supply explosives in exchange for safety by Maoists. The
company was facing financial losses due to delay in completion of road projects.
Inspector in-charge of Malkangiri Police Station, Anirudh Routray, informed that
the employees were arrested while they were transporting around 60 kilograms of
explosives. "We arrested them while they were supplying explosives to the Maoists.
We had prior information that they had nexus with the Maoists and they were providing
logistic support to the rebels," said Routray. Police informed that they have
also recovered huge quantities of improvised explosive devices (IED), gelatine
powder, mobile phones, batteries and Maoist literature. The arrested include CEO
of the company, A Bhupal and eight other employees, N V Ravi Kumar, P J Yoganand,
C Sudhakar Naidu, G Ratnam, K Sudhakar, K Benumadhav, Pradeep Biswal, and Y Lingamayah.
"Along with the company CEO, eight other people who were involved with supplying
arms and explosives to the Maoists have been arrested. In total, nine people have
been arrested and they have been sent to jail," said Routray. |
