Violence in DU campus after NSUI victory, police baton-charge ABVP agitators | The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Saturday alleged large-scale cheating in counting of votes in the students union election of the Delhi University. Police resorted to baton charge, as protestors ransacked the compound. ABVP workers complained of police’s excesses. Interacting with mediapersons, Arvind Garg, one of the protestors termed police action as violation of human rights. “The way police has reacted today is very negative. The candidates have been beaten
up mercilessly. There should be a human rights’ violation case against the police
and administration,” he said. Further, the agitators alleged the elections were
rigged. “It’s a murder of democracy. We saw people carrying black suitcases inside
the office,” one of the protestors said. Deepak Bansal, the current DUSU Joint
Secretary was also beaten up by policemen. Speaking to media, Bansal said, “ I
have been beaten up as well. There are no ambulances, and two of our workers have
fainted. We are being treated like terrorists. Ankit Choudhary, the current president,
has been beaten up as well.” |
