Chief Justice 'astonished' over missing notification of ISI's political cell | Pakistan's Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhary has reacted with astonishment that the notification for the establishment of the Inter-Services Intelligence
(ISI) agency's political cell is missing. The Supreme Court sought a report
from the Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Defence on the notification regarding
the establishment of a political cell in the ISI, reports The News. The court
resumed hearing in a petition filed by Air Marshal (retired) Asghar Khan in 1996
against the distribution of millions of rupees of public money by the ISI among
the anti-PPP politicians to manipulate the 1990 elections. Appearing on notice,
Attorney General Irfan Qadir told the court that the notification regarding the
establishment of a political cell in the ISI was still missing. The court sought
a written reply from the Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Defence and adjourned the hearing till October 3. |
