Mystery about murder of Indian origin bride Anni Dewani revealed | The identity of the man, 'Mawewe', linked to the murder of
Indian origin bride Anni Dewani, has been revealed. Lieutenant Colonel Bonginkosi Kwinana testified that after arresting Xolile Mngeni, who has been suspected of
killing Dewani, on 16 November 2010, he asked officers at the Lingelethu West police station if they knew 'Mawewe', his alleged accomplice. "Some members knew
about him and even gave his real name as Simphiwe Gom. I got his address [from
them]," said Kwinana, who is investigating the case. News24 quoted Kwinana, as
saying that he and the rest of his Hawks unit went to the address, but Mawewe
was not there. Mngeni led them to five or six other places, but he was nowhere
to be found, Kwinana added. Mngeni has been accused of hijacking, robbing and
killing Anni Dewani in Gugulethu on 13 November 2010. Anni was shot dead while
on honeymoon in South Africa with Shiren, who is thought to have hired hitmen
to kill his newly wed wife. The murder in Cape Town was allegedly staged to look
like a bungled kidnapping.
