FA seeks ban on players, managers, referees placing bets |
FA chairman Lord Triesman has insisted that players,
managers and referees should be banned from football if they are found guilty
of placing any kind of bets on the game. The aim is to tighten up any loopholes
to protect the integrity of the Premier League and football in general, as the
current rules only prevent people from placing a bet on a match or competition
in which they have a direct involvement. "The restrictions are fairly limited
at the moment. They need to be more widespread and very clear. Anybody involved
in football shouldn't bet on football - including me," The Sun quoted Triesman,
as saying. Triesman further said that he has full confidence in former Liverpool
chief executive Rick Parry, who is heading a Government panel to investigate betting
laws in Britain. "Rick is probably one of those people who will find a really
sensible balancing act. I have every confidence he will think his way through
the issue," Triesman said. |
