Convicted cheat confirms role in anti-Islamic film

A convicted California fraudster has confirmed that he was involved in the production of an anti-Muslim film. The film had led to protests in Libya and Egypt further deepening the mystery surrounding the identity of the real man. Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, 55, a Coptic Christian, said he was a manager of the company that produced the film ‘Innocence of Muslims’, which mocked Muslims and the prophet Muhammad, and provided logistics. According to the Telegraph, he, however, denied being ‘Sam Bacile’, the pseudonym of the person ultimately behind the project. In a subsequent interview with the Daily Telegraph, a man who admitted being Nakoula, withdrew his earlier admission, and said he had nothing to do with the film. Speaking at his suburban home outside Los Angeles , he said "I'm a gas station worker, how can I have made a five million dollar movie?” "I didn't know this movie, I didn't work on it, I know nothing about it. They need to blame someone," he added. However, a door very similar to Nakoula’s front door appears in a scene in the movie, as does a chandelier just inside the front door, suggesting that parts of the film were actually shot at his house, the report said. Speaking to the Telegraph in his garage at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac, Nakoula admitted to having been convicted of fraud in the past. But he claimed other people had been responsible for that and ‘had my name with them’. "I didn't do anything wrong," he said, adding: "I didn't know anything about the movie. Now the FBI are having to come to protect me." According to the report, a news agency said that a mobile phone number, which the elusive "Sam Bacile" contacted them from, was traced to the same address where Nakoula lives. However, Nakoula denied he had posed as "Sam Bacile". He had been accused of setting up fraudulent bank accounts, using stolen identities and social security numbers, and a series of aliases were listed. The confusion over his role in the movie was the latest twist in the mystery surrounding the makers of the anti-Muslim film, the report said. XXXXXXXXXXX
