Nine killed in gunfire in SW Pakistan

Nine people were killed and six others injured in a gunfire that took place in Pakistan's southwest Mastung area on Thursday morning. The incident occurred at about 11:00 a.m. local time when a group of unknown gunmen opened fire indiscriminately on workers constructing a road in the Dasht area of Mastung, a town lying some 50 km southwest of Quetta, capital of Balochistan province in southwest Pakistan. The gunmen fled the scene after the attack. Police and rescue team rushed to the site shortly after the shooting incident was reported. All the bodies and injured have been shifted to nearby hospital. Police believe it could be a target killing. Target killing is frequently reported between the Shiite Muslims and Sunny Muslims in the province. But the workers who got attacked in this incident could also be people coming from the country's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province as such people often come under attacks by local residents because they have created troubles for the employment of locals. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
