Jamaat chief tells Pak Govt not to prioritize Kashmir issue in talks

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief, Syed Munawar Hassan, has told the Pakistan Govt not to prioritize a trade agreement with India over the core issue of Kashmir. Hassan said there has been a long struggle for Kashmiris' to get rid of the "clutches of Indian hooliganism". He urged the government to take a firm stance on the core issue, saying it would get more complicated in the future. He stated that terrorism was being 'cultivated' in India, reports The Nation. Hassan said India's present polices towards Pakistan reflected that it wanted to influence Islamabad in order to gain supremacy in the region. "The United States wants to have maximum Indian influence in the region to gain its desirable objectives before quitting a prolonged war in Afghanistan," Hassan said. Referring to granting India the status of Most Favored Nation (MFN), he said that no measures were taken to protect the interests of local industry before extending the facility. He termed it a conspiracy against Pakistan to enhance Indian influence in the region.
