Terrorism a continuing threat for regional peace: Krishna

External Affairs Minister SM Krishna, on a three-day visit to Pakistan, said on Saturday that terrorism poses a “continuing threat” to regional peace. He also expressed satisfaction and happiness at Pakistan’s commitment to take steps to bring the perpetrators of the 26/11 terror strike on Mumbai to justice. Addressing a joint press conference with his Pakistani counterpart Hina Rabbani Khar here, Krishna described his talks with her and the Pakistan delegation as being “cordial, frank, protective and positive.” Referring specifically to the issue of terrorism, he said: “We agreed that terrorism poses a continuing threat to peace and security, and reaffirmed the strong commitment of the two countries to fight terror in an effective and comprehensive manner." "In this regard, Pakistan reiterated its commitment to bring all perpetrators of Mumbai terror attacks to justice expeditiously in accordance with due process of law,” he added. Thanking Khar for inviting him to Pakistan, Krishna said India aims to build a relationship of trust with Islamabad that is mutually beneficial, and expressed happiness over the resumption of the dialogue process. “Given the complexity of the relationship, we are happy with the resumed talks,” the Indian External Affairs Minister said. Commenting about the revival of the Joint Commission, he said: “We took a decision last year that the defunct Joint Commission has to be revived in order to further the bilateral relationship between the two countries.” He also announced the decision to convene separate meetings of expert groups on nuclear and conventional confidence building measures (CBMs) in the second half of December this year. Expressing hope and optimism over the resumption of bilateral ties, Krishna said: “The path ahead won't be easy, but we are determined to walk the path. We will walk the talk together.” Krishna further thanked Pakistan over its decision to release all Indian fishermen by the end of the year. “Interior Minister Rehman Malik has agreed to release all Indian fishermen in Pakistan prisons. I hope their boats are also returned,” he added.
