Pussy Riot burns Putin's portrait to protest jailing of members | Russian band Pussy Riot has released a new video showing the free members of the
feminist punk band setting fire to pictures of President Vladimir Putin. Three members of the
group were jailed last month for a 'punk prayer' they performed on the altar of Moscow's
main cathedral, calling on the Virgin Mary to rid Russia of Putin.
According to Sky News,
the latest video features other members of the collective abseiling down a wall, in what looks
like a Russian setting, before burning a picture of the strongman President.
"We've been
fighting for the right to sing, to think, to criticise," the members said in the video.
"To be
musicians and artists ready to do everything to change our country. No matter the risks, we go
on with our musical fight in Russia," they added.
According to the report, the group also
thanked their supporters.
"Thank you Madonna, thank you Red Hot Chili Peppers, thank
you Bjork, thank you Green Day ... Thank you to all musicians, activists and everyone around
the world who have stood up together to fight for our right to be free," they said.
