Musharraf contemplating return to Pak

Former Pakistan president General Pervez Musharraf (retired) is said to have started contacting his 'friends' in the army and political circles to assess the possibilities of his homecoming during the caretaker setup. Earlier on Thursday, Musharraf chaired a meeting of his party leaders in Dubai and discussed the developments taking place in Pakistan regarding the interim setup and his homecoming in the wake of its formation, reports The Dawn. "Mr Musharraf is in contact with his friends in political as well as non-political circles to discuss his return to Pakistan during the interim setup," said All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) senior leader Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif. "In the meeting the participants had consensus that the APML should start preparation for the return of Gen Musharraf as the interim setup will not be hostile towards him like that of the present rulers," Saif said. "Since the anti-Musharraf rulers will not be in power once the interim setup is installed, the APML president will also be in a better position to face cases in the courts," he added. An anti-terrorism court of Rawalpindi had issued a permanent non-bailable arrest warrant for Musharraf for failing to cooperate with investigators probing the 2007 assassination of Benazir Bhutto. The ATC had also ordered seizure of his property and freezing of his bank accounts while declaring him an absconder in the same case. Musharraf is also facing arrest warrants in the Akbar Bugti murder case. Barrister Saif said there was no evidence of his involvement in both cases. APML information secretary Asia Ishaq said Musharraf would announce the date of his homecoming once the caretaker setup was formed. "On return of Mr Musharraf the APML's strength will be known to every one. Many political figures in different parties will join the APML on Mr Musharraf's return. And our candidates will contest on all constituencies including Dera Bugti," Ishaq said.
