Tibetan PM-in-exile Lobsang Sangay blames China's repressive policies for rising self-immolations |
Prime Minister of Tibetan government in-exile, also known as the Central Tibetan Administration, Lobsang Sangay, has expressed concern over self-immolation incidents in Tibet.
Tibetans-in-exile residing here held a prayer meet recently to pay condolences to those who have committed self-immolation for the Tibetan cause.
The prayers session was organised by the Central Tibetan Administration in the Tsuglagkhang Temple.
Interacting with reporters here, Sangay blamed the repressive policies of the Chinese government for the incidents of self –immolation.
“Today we have gathered here for special prayer because now 51 Tibetans have self-immolated, out of which 42 have died. This is a very sad commentary about the situation in Tibet . Given the occupation of Tibet and repressive policies of the Chinese government, Tibetans are committing such tragic actions. Despite our repeated appeals not to resort to drastic actions, they have done so and as Buddhists, we are gathered here to pray for those who have died,” Sangay said.
He added that the prayer session was held to express solidarity with compatriots who sacrificed their life for the freedom of Tibet .
“As Tibetans, we are here to show solidarity because they have sacrificed themselves for Tibet and also we are here to support their aspiration, that His Holiness Dalai Lama returns to Tibet and freedom be restored to Tibetan people,” he said.
