India-born survivor of London 7/7 bombings faces expulsion from Britain

A 77-year-old man in Britain, who survived the 7/7 bombings, is facing the risk of being deported because he was born in India. Professor John Tulloch was born to British parents in India when the country was still a part of the British Empire. Tulloch became a national symbol for the 'resilience of the British people' after a picture of him in the aftermath of July 7 London terrorist attack was published in newspapers around the world. According to The Daily Mail, his family moved to Britain when he was only three years old and he was raised here and has lived in the UK most of his life. He took a job in Australia and acquired Australian citizenship. Now, the 70-year-old professor may be deported from Britain after his Australian citizenship automatically cancelled his British nationality and right to remain, the paper said. According to the paper, as Prof Tulloch moves into semi-retirement he will no longer have the right to remain in Britain for longer than short periods on tourist visas.
