PM says he had invited Rahul to join Govt, but doesn't know his plans | Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh on Friday once again has
invited AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi to join the government.
The statement of the Prime Minister gains significance after Congress' heir apparent last month
had announced that he was ready to play a more active role in the party and the government.
Interacting with media on his way back home after attending the XVIth Non-Aligned
Movement (NAM) Summit in Tehran, Dr. Singh said: "Have invited Rahul Gandhi a number
of times to be a member of my cabinet, I have no inside knowledge of what he plans to do."
Congress leaders have been urging Rahul Gandhi to move to the party's mainstream amid
growing clamour for projecting him as prime ministerial candidate in the next Lok Sabha polls,
likely in 2014.
Dr. Singh had also himself urged Rahul, a number of times, to join the government.
