No repeat of Sharm-el-Sheikh at Tehran | Details have yet to emerge of what transpired at the bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari on the sidelines of the 16th Non Aligned Summit here today.
There was a lot of media interest about this meeting because of furore over the Sharm-el-Sheikh document, as a result of the meeting between Dr. Singh and then Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on the sidelines of the 15th NAM summit in Egypt .
The half-an-hour meeting that took place seemed to indicate that all that happened was that stated positions of both sides were put forward with no major breakthrough.
The body language of the leaders at the meet seemed to indicate that it was just a courtesy call.
Present at the meeting was Asif Ali Zardari's son Bilawal Bhutto, who was clad in an all black sherwani. Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar was in an Abaya with a long pearl chain.
Soon after the meeting with the Indian delegation, the Pakistanis rushed for a meeting with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad.
This was probably the reason why Hina Rabbani Khar was dressed in strict Islamic attire.
The Indian delegation, which included External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna, Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai and National Security Advisor Shiv Shankar Menon went on for a bilateral meeting with the Afghan delegation. |
