Paul Ryan steals spotlight from Romney at GOP Convention | Paul Ryan is just the GOP running mate, but he is No. 1 in the hearts of many
delegates who attended the Republican National Convention in Tampa .
Ryan, whose flawless conservative credentials have made him a rock star in the party, will
address the convention on Wednesday, and is expected to receive a raucous reception.
According to the New York Daily News, Ryan has a firm stance on social issues, unlike
Romney, and has not changed his position on abortion and gay rights over the years, is one of
the reasons that have made him their favourite.
“He comes from a small town — your typical story you like to hear,” John Quintanilla, an
alternate California delegate, who praised Ryan by subtly drawing a contrast with Romney,
said, adding: “He made it on his own.”
“He’s very down to earth,” Quintanilla said, adding: “He’s not your typical politician.”
According to the report, Ryan was in part chosen to be Romney’s running mate to reassure
those on the right who are still indifferent about the formerly moderate ex-Massachusetts
governor.
He briefly considered bidding for President this year, and many at the convention predicted
Ryan would indeed contest for the White House, in four years or eight, the report added.
