A Delhi Court on Tuesday sent former Haryana Minister Gopal Kanda to judicial custody for 14 days in connection with the suicide case of former airhostess Geetika Sharma. The Rohini Court pronounced this verdict as the police custody of Kanda, under arrest in connection with the Geetika Sharma suicide case, ended on Tuesday. Delhi Police, which has so far been quizzing Kanda about his relationship with Geetika, had earlier on Monday conducted fresh raids at Kanda's house in Sirsa. Meanwhile, Ankita Singh, whose name figured in the suicide note of Geetika Sharma, is reportedly learnt to have approached the police to record her version of the story after her name cropped up during the investigations. Kanda had earlier on August 25 alleged that some politicians are trying to tarnish his image and are misguiding the media. "Some politicians are trying to malign my image and are misguiding the media and the truth will be unravelled," he said. Kanda further said the truth into the case would come to the fore soon. "There is nothing like that, it is not true," he added, while denying all the allegations levelled against him so far. Geetika's family alleges that Kanda was harassing Geetika, who had worked in several of his companies. He has been charged with abetment to suicide, criminal intimidation, criminal conspiracy and destruction of evidence. The charge of abetting suicide under section 306 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison. Searches at his office in Gurgaon have helped the police locate hard drives that allegedly have copies of emails between Kanda and Geetika. Kanda was sent to seven-day police custody on August 18 following his surrender and subsequent arrest and as a part of the probe, he was taken to various places, including his offices in Haryana from where the Delhi Police claimed to have recovered certain documents including various electronic devices. The former Haryana Minister had gone underground which prompted Delhi Police to declare him as an absconder, while MDLR Airlines executive and Kanda's associate Aruna Chaddha was arrested. Chaddha was arrested on August 8 when she was called by the police for questioning and was later sent to judicial custody on August 16 for 14 days. Geetika Sharma (23), a former airhostess with Kanda's MDLR Airline, had alleged in her suicide note that she was ending her life due to harassment by Kanda and Chaddha. Both Kanda and Chaddha have, however, denied the allegations.
