Newly-appointed Roman Catholic archbishop of San Francisco, Salvatore Cordileone was arrested this weekend on suspicion of drink driving, San Diego police has revealed. The incident happened early Saturday morning, after the 56-year-old Reverend was stopped by police at a checkpoint near the San Diego State University campus, the New York Daily News reported. Last month, Pope Benedict XVI had chosen Cordileone to replace Archbishop George Niederauer, who will be retiring this October and was expected to assume the post on October 4, the feast day for St. Francis of Assisi . He currently serves as the bishop of Oakland, a position he has held since 2009 and has also been the chairman of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Subcommittee for the Promotion and Defense of Marriage since last year.
