India, New Zealand share honours on first day of Hyderabad Test |
Baroda batsman Cheteshwar
Pujara scored an unbeaten 119, his first century in Test cricket, on Thursday,
on the first day of the opening Test against New Zealand at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium
here. At stumps, India had scored 307 for the loss of five wickets. Pujara's ton
included fifteen boundaries and a six over long-on. He scored his hundred of 226
deliveries. Keeping him company at the draw of stumps was skipper Mahendra Singh
Dhoni on 29. It was an innings of promise and reflected his patient hunger for
run building, a characteristic that has shone time and again in the domestic circuit.
Pujara and Delhi batsman Virat Kohli stiched up a partnership of 125 runs for
the fourth wicket, of which the latter scored 58 before being caught in the slip
cordon. New Zealand fast bowler Trent Boult was the most successful bowler, claiming
two of the five wickets to fall during the day. Chris Martin, Doug Bracewell and
Jeeten Patel claimed the other three wickets. For India , the others to score
were Gautam Gambhir (22), Virender Sehwag (47), sachin Tendulkar (19) and Suresh
Raina (3).
