Satyapal Singh is set to take over as the Mumbai Police Commissioner after Arup Patnaik was transferred on Thursday. Reportedly, Patnaik is being shunted out due to the Azad Maidan unrest of August 11 that claimed four lives, including two police personnel. Earlier, Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray had demanded Patnaik’s ouster from the state government. Patnaik has been elevated to the rank of the Director General of Police (DGP) and transferred on the pretext of being promoted.
