Haryana police honours Olympic heroes | The Haryana Police department on Thursday felicitated Olympic medal winners and other participants. Haryana Chief
Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Director General of Police (DGP) Ranjiv Dalal congratulated the players. Speaking to mediapersons on the occasion, Dalal informed
that seven athletes from the state police had participated in the Games. “We are
honouring seven sportsmen from the Haryana Police who have made it to Olympics
and made a record. Till now no one from the state police, paramilitary forces
and Indian Army have participated in it. It is a memorable moment for us that
our seven players who have represented India in Olympics and Yogeshwar Dutt have
created history by winning medal in boxing,” Dalal said. London Olympic bronze
medallist Yogeshwar Dutt said the recognition accorded to them would encourage
them to perform better in the future. “I am feeling very good as Haryana police
is felicitating the Olympians, this will encourage the sportsmen and improve their
performance,” Dutt said. Dutt won gold medals in the 2003, 2005, 2010 Commonwealth
Games held in Canada , South Africa and India respectively. He also received the
Arjuna Award for 2008-09. Boxer Vijender Singh expressed his gratitude towards
Hooda and Dalal for felicitating them. "I am very happy as we have been honoured
and sportsmen from Haryana police have also been greeted. All the players have
come who represent police. We express our gratitude towards chief minister Bhupinder
Singh Hooda and Haryana DGP Ranjiv Dalal," Singh said. India won 2 silver and
4 bronze medals in the London Olympics, making it their best overall medal tally
in the Olympiad. Indian wrestler Sushil Kumar won a silver medal, as did shooter
Vijay Kumar, while shooter Gagan Narang, pugilist M.C. Mary Kom, shuttler Saina
Nehwal and wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt won a bronze medal apiece. |
