Sports Minister Maken felicitates Olympics medal winners | Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Ajay Maken on Thursday
felicitated and presented cash awards to the six medal winners of the London Olympics 2012.
The event was organised at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium here. Medal
winners were accompanied by their parents and other Indian athletes, Indian and
foreign coaches, who participated in the London Olympics, also took place in the
event. After the function, all medal winners along with other Olympians moved
to India Gate in open Jongas to pay floral tribute at Amar Jawan Jyoti and to
take part in a photo-op. India won a record two silver medals and five bronze
medals at this year's London Olympics. Wrestler Sushil Kumar and 25-meter pistol
shooter Vijay Singh were the silver medal winners, while the bronze medal winners
were Sania Nehwal (Badminton), Mary Kom (women's boxing 51-kg), Gagan Narang
(Shooting --10-meter air rifle) and Yogeshwar Dutt (Wrestling-Men's FR-60kg).
