BBC head Mark Thompson lands top job at New York Times | BBC's outgoing director general Mark Thompson has been named president and chief executive of the New
York Times. Thompson's appointment at the top job at the newspaper confirmed months of speculation over a possible move to the US. In June it was reported that Thompson
had held several meetings in London with the newspaper's American publishers.
Thompson will replace Janet Robinson, who had abruptly left the post chief executive
at the New York Times in December, the Telegraph reports. Thompson, who will take
up the new role in November, announced earlier this year that he would quit the
BBC after the Olympics, ending an eight-year reign at the helm of the broadcasting
corporation. According to the paper, he will be succeeded by BBC executive George
Entwistle.
