Indian wrestler’s family rejoice in home town Sonepat | Family members of Indian wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt rejoiced on Sunday,
after he clinched a bronze medal at the London Olympics in the 60 kilograms freestyle
competition.
He defeated North Korea 's Jong Myong Ri by 3-1 on Saturday. Residents in Dutt’s
ancestral village in Sonepat district cheered as the news broke out on television
news channels. Joy written across her face, Dutt’s aged mother danced with neighbours
to celebrate her son’s victory. “We are very happy, our neighbours and villagers
have gathered at our place and we are celebrating his win. We have called the
music system and everybody is dancing and bursting firecrackers,” said Sushila
Devi, Dutt’s mother. Dutt’s family members distributed sweets and joined the locals
as a wave of exuberance swept the village. Dutt’s brother, Mukesh Dutt, said though
they were hoping for gold, they were still content with the bronze medal. “We
are very happy and he had the wishes of villagers and people from across the country.
We are very happy that he won the bronze medal. Though we were hoping for a gold
medal but unfortunately he missed the gold. But we are happy that he clinched
the bronze medal,” said Mukesh Dutt. Dutt won gold medals in the 2003, 2005, 2010
Commonwealth Games held in Canada , South Africa and India respectively. He also
received the Arjuna Award for 2008-09. India 's tally at the London Olympics touched
five, with one silver and four bronze medals. Beijing Olympics bronze medal winner
wrestler Sushil Kumar would be competing in men's 66 kg Freestyle category on
the 16th and final day of the London Olympics.
