Man held for publicly questioning Mamata Banerjee | Kolkata Police on Saturday confirmed the arrest of a man for publicly questioning
West Bengal Chief Minister
Mamata Banerjee about what steps she was taking to help farmers of the state.
Police claimed that the arrested individual tried to disrupt Banerjee’s meeting
in Belpahari in the once Maoist-dominated district of West Midnapore. Shiladitya
Chowdhury, a farmer in his 40s, is said to have asked, “What are you doing for
farmers? Farmers are dying because they have no money. Empty promises are not
enough.” Surprised by the farmer’s question, an irked Banerjee reacted angrily
and said the man must be a Maoist. The police immediately nabbed him. After some
questioning, the police let him go on Wednesday, but picked him up from his home
again on Friday night for allegedly trying to disrupt Banerjee’s meeting.
