Haryana ex-minister Kanda missing after Geetika Sharma suicide

Former Haryana Minister Gopal Kanda, who resigned after former airhostess Geetika Sharma named him in her suicide note, has gone missing. Delhi Police, which had asked him to come for questioning in connection with this case, conducted raids at his home and a school owned by his family in Sirsa earlier this morning. Kanda, who is on the run, has been charged with abetment of suicide and criminal intimidation. The former Haryana Minister's lawyers have, however, asked for the interrogation to be postponed by three days, saying his client wanted to review important documents that could be relevant to the case. Sharma's family has accused Kanda of ruining her chances of working with the international Emirates airline, while pressurising her to remain with MDLR. Delhi Police earlier on Wednesday arrested MDLR official Aruna Chaddha, who also has been accused of abetting the suicide of former airhostess. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-West), P. Karunakaran, made an announcement in this regard yesterday. "Aruna Chadha has been arrested under sections 306 (abetment of suicide) and 120-b (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC (Indian Penal Code). Kanda is the main accused. He is absconding. We are conducting raids at various locations," he said. 23-year-old Geetika, a former airhostess with Kanda's now defunct MDLR airline, was found dead on Sunday at her Ashok Vihar residence in northwest Delhi . In a suicide note found at her residence, Geetika accused Kanda and MDLR official Aruna Chaddha of repeatedly harassing her. Delhi Police had earlier registered a case of abetment to suicide against Kanda on the basis of the suicide note.
