Saina creates history, wins Olympics Bronze | It might not exactly be the manner in which she
would have fancied herself doing it, but Saina Nehwal would still take the Olympic
Bronze, and so would the rest of India . Saina won the bronze medal playoff against
Wang Xin of China through walkover, thereby becoming the first Indian shuttler
to win an Olympic medal. Saina, trailing 18-21 after the first game, had the rub
of green going her way against her Chinese opponent and World Number 2, who pulled
out of the match after suffering from cramps towards the fag of the first game.
Xin tried for a comeback in second game and even won a point, but soon started
to cramp up again and finally pulling out of the match. This was Saina’s second
Olympic appearance after her quarterfinals effort in Beijing four summers back,
when the world first took note of the precocious Indian.
