Maoist threat leads to mass exodus from Chhattisgarh | The constant fear of Maoists is forcing local people to migrate out of Chhattisgarh. In most cases, people move to other places for better employment opportunities, but here the case is altogether different. Regular threats by the
rebels have left the villagers distraught, leaving them with no other option but
to migrate. "We know that there is a threat of Maoists in several areas. Several
locals have gathered here today and they were driven out of the villages day before
yesterday," Sub Divisional Police Officer, Bijapur, Ashok Singh, said on Thursday.
The locals have urged the police and state authorities to take action, but there
has been no improvement in the situation. Locals are apprehensive to step out
of their houses, owing to the threat of the ultras. "We are very troubled by Maoist
activities here. We face a lot of problems and now we are forced to migrate,"
Mohan, a local, said. Reportedly, Maoists are facing acute shortage of personnel
in several areas of central and eastern India , due to the steps taken by the
state and central security forces to curtail insurgency.
