FA chairman vows to wipe out racism from English football | Football Association (FA) chairman David Bernstein has pledged to stamp out racism from English football, and is ready to step up their fight against racism. Bernstein
spoke out just a day after the FA had charged Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand
for endorsing the term "choc ice" on Twitter, and in the wake of John Terry vowing
to fight a charge of using insulting language against Ferdinand's brother Anton.
Bernstein said football's governing body had always been determined to stamp out
racist behaviour, but they were going to be even more vigilant in future particularly
when it came to remarks made on social networking sites "We must continue to be
tough as a regulatory body on sanctioning and disciplining inappropriate behaviour.
Wherever possible, we must bring incidents of discriminatory abuse to charge and
all participants must know the consequences of their actions," The Daily Star
quoted Bernstein, as saying. "This goes for the Twittersphere as much as on the
pitch, in the stands and in the recruitment processes across football," he added.
