More than one in 10 sold Olympics seats still going empty

The London Organizing Committee for Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) has disclosed that out of 60,000 Olympic seats a day more than one in 10 sold have been left unfilled. According to the official figures from LOCOG, on the first day of the Games around 14 per cent of those who held tickets didn't turn up. On succeeding days, the stay-aways amounted to 58,000 and 50,000 making the average no show figure to be nearly 60,000. Organizers have hurried to reclaim and resell extra 3,800 tickets on Monday and promised more would become available 'day by day'. But there have been complaints about the ticketing website breaking down and the absence of box offices which mean tickets can only be bought online anyway. "One of the things we want to look into is how we distribute tickets to our national Olympic committees," The Telegraph quoted International Olympic Committee spokesperson Mark Adams, as saying. It has already reduced the size of the accredited area to provide more seats to the public. Some seats were initially handed out to children and army personnel, but even they could not fill the gaps On Saturday, just 86 per cent of seats were filled when, out of 414,000 tickets sold, a staggering 58,000 seat-holders never arrived. The absences did not improve on Sunday, when 67,000 ticket holders did not show, while 50,000 failed to turn up on Monday.
