Chidambaram gets back Finance, Shinde new Home Minister | In a major Cabinet reshuffle on Tuesday, P. Chidambaram has been made the Finance Minister, Sushil Kumar Shinde has been appointed the Home Minister of the country, and Veerappa Moily has been given the additional charge of the Power Ministry. The post of
the Finance Minister was left vacant after Pranab Mukherjee resigned from the post ahead of
the presidential election. The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh,
was handling this office temporarily. Chidambaram has been the Finance Minister
twice. Chidambaram's appointment as the head of the Group of Ministers (GoM) on
telecom is also an indication that government is willing to take on the opposition.
Corporate Affairs Minister Veerappa Moily has been given the additional charge
of Power Ministry, which fell vacant after Shinde's appointment as the Home Minister.
A further reshuffle is expected after the Monsoon Session of Parliament in September.
