Swimmer Dana Vollmer smashes record to win Olympic gold in 100m butterfly | | US swimming champ Dana Vollmer won the 100 metres butterfly gold medal in record time at the London Olympics on Sunday. Vollmer dashed through the 100-meter butterfly in 55.98 seconds to establish a world record. The 24-year-old,
who was third at the turn, shaved 0.08 off the previous mark set by Swedish swimmer
Sarah Sjostrom at the 2009 world championships in Rome , the Huffington Post reported.
The event saw Lu Ying of China ranking second in 56.87, while Alicia Coutts of
Australia finished third in 56.94. Sjostrom took the fourth slot. |
